Finally recieved Derrecks Graduation letter. Yeah!!! Family day is Oct 16th till 9 PM. Graduation starts at 11 am.
I can hardly wait. He is so excited. In his last letter he mentioned going to Hooters. Although I am not sure that is going to happen, as we have his little sister along. We will defenitely feed him well. Can't wait to post pictures of him at graduation. I will update prior to going and then look for the pictures.

Derreck called on Sunday, he is doing great. He expressed a lot of thanks for the mail he has been getting. It is like Gold there. Also he loves all his pictures and basically this gets him thru the hard days and sleepless nights. (Kind of like a country song, but we know he really is working hard)lol. He got expert on his M16. What ever that is. I will need to do some research. He is soon going to be in the Blue Phase and this will allow for more privleges. Yeah! He is hoping to call more often. Derreck called this morning, he is doing fine. I think he had a longer time to talk, but I had to go as I had to work. Hopefully we will get a call on Sunday. He seems up beat. He is platoon leader still. He is not sure if he likes it that much, as there are some who do not listen or do what they are supposed to do. But he said that it was a good honor though. Never thought he would have been choosen.
So the waiting continues....

Derreck is doing great, He has passed all his PT tests so far. He said he has made lots of friends and his platoon seems to be working well together. He is in White Phase now. So hopefully we will be hearing from him more on the phone. If there is a question you would like to ask I will be happy to answer it for you or even ask Derreck. Thank you.

Sorry it has taken me a couple of days to post. I have been follow the GAP discussions. They are so helpful. So far no word from Derreck with in the last 3 days. I did receive a letter 4 days ago. I have sent him 4 since then. He finally received I think ALL pictures that I have sent him. In his letter, he did send back the questionaire from the GAP Forum that us parents have been sending to them. Check it out on Goarmyparents.com. There are lots to reveiw. I will update as soon as I get one. I am also hoping that Derreck sends this information to his grandmother. I would love to have you see his pictures. Army Mom Out!

Nothing new, but I wanted to add to the phone call the other day. Derreck did say that right after graduation we would only have a half hour with him. As he will be leaving for AIT in S.C. I am hoping that either graduation is short or the bus leaves later. At least we will have family day with him. I am so looking forward to seeing him. As I am sure him seeing us. I will post when I hear new.

Yeah, Finally got a phone call from Derreck, but he is not feeling too good right now as after being sick the last 2 weeks he now has a viral infection which has become a little serious. He is being treated and hopefully will recover 100%. He is still looking forward to graduation and this sickness will not hinder in his goal to graduate hopefully at the top of his platoon. He misses everyone, and has requested some pictures of his friends as well as address for his teachers at school. He wants to write to them and say thanks for all the guidance that they gave him. So hopefully the next call will be much brighter.

Recieved a letter yesterday from Derreck. He seems to be doing great! He went thru the Gas Chamber last week (it takes at least 4-5 days for a letter) He said it was cool. Although he said his skin burned and it felt like needles in his chest, he said after about 15 minutes it all went away. He is counting down the days till graduation. I can sense a bit of maturity in him that was not there before. I am so proud of him. He did say prebasic was harder than this. For this he is greatful for. Jocelyn wrote him the cutest letter (His sister 8 years old) I think he will get a good laugh and cry over it.

Just started this blog, but thought this would be a great idea to show not only family, but friends of our family and friends and realatives of Derreck's as well. As I recieve pictures and also an outline of his life, I will post. It may not be all in order but hopefully as time goes by I will get the hang of this. To the love and devotion of my son who chose a positive path in life. I will ever be so proud of him and supportive of his decisions.
